Equipment

If you are a AFC Club member, after you complete Fencing 2, it is time to buy a uniform.   At 9 months, purchase your electrical gear.

If you are a Middle School or High School Club fencer, purchase a uniform and electrical gear after 2 school semesters, which the equivalent of Fencing 1 & 2.

Fencing gear is available from online fencing stores or at very large tournaments, like the Capitol Clash Super Youth Circuit, which is held each winter at National Harbor in MD.

Uniforms

 Epee, foil or saber

  • Plasteron/underarm protector – nylon
  • Plastic Chest Protector
  • Knickers – nylon, stretchables
  • Jacket – front-zip, nylon, stretchable
  • Socks – soccer socks work great, any tall socks work
  • Shoes – fencing shoes, volleyball shoes, court shoes.
  • Glove – washable

Electrical Equipment

 Epee

  • 2 electric epees, German tip, aluminum guard, clear pad, outside hex nut for pistol grips.
  • 2 body cords – any

Foil

  • Lame’ washable, stainless
  • 2 electric foils, German tip, aluminum guard, clear pad, outside hex nut for pistol       grips
  • 2 body cords – any
  • 2 mask cords – any
  • Electric bib mask 

Saber

  • Lame’ – washable, stainless
  • Cuff – washable, stainless
  • 2 electric sabers
  • 2 body cords – any
  • 2 mask cords – any
  • Electric mask

Tools

Medium size crescent wrench, 2 small vice grips, outside hex nut wrench, set of small screw drivers for tip work, small wrench for tightening socket nuts, large screwdriver, thin bodied instant glue, thick bodied instant glue, channel locks, lighter or matches.  Spare parts should have the following:  New wire, couple of new tips, new weapon socket (1 or 2), extra springs, extra screws.  For the intermediate competitive, these will be required!
